The start of May has been an extremely exciting time for the Xi Xi Chapter! We’ve done lots of new things along with some that we’ve been working towards for quite some time now. No matter what we do, we always have a great time working together and promoting the tenets of our Sisterhood. This month we sponsored a local young professionals’ mixer event and also hosted our first ever Sisterhood Weekend!

The New Jersey Young Professionals’ (NJYP) Multi-Group Mixer has been on Xi Xi’s radar since 2012, when we first learned about NJYP. This spring, the Chapter was able to pool its resources and not only attend the event, but become a Sponsor. The Multi-Group Mixer is geared towards young professionals from 20-39 years of age and is targeted towards networking and connection building. This year, over 500 young professionals were in attendance at the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick, NJ. Our Sisters had a great time meeting, mingling, and sharing information about our Sisterhood.

Jersey Cares Day is another event that Xi Xi has been interested in participating in for quite some time. This year, we contacted Jersey Cares and made sure that we were registered as a team for their upcoming event. Jersey Cares Day is the largest day of service in NJ and participants are spread out all over the state, manning different projects to better our communities. Xi Xi was placed at Duke Farms in Hillsborough, NJ. Duke Farms is an ecological preserve and learning center, and we were tasked with helping to reclaim a barren area with local fauna. After spending several hours out in the sunshine, the Sisters headed inside to try out the Duke Farms Café where we sampled their Carrot Ginger Soup and relaxed.

One of the goals of Sisterhood Weekend was to make sure that we bonded more as a Chapter. What better way to do that than to roll around in mud in Scranton, PA, right?! Well, that’s exactly what we did. The Dirty Girl Mud Run is a 5k, untimed, ladies-only mud run, with a portion of our fee going to the national breast cancer research fund. Admittedly a bit anxious at first, the four members of the Xi Xi Chapter bravely trekked their 3.1 miles through the Toyota Pavilion and overcame mud pits, cargo nets, mudslides and 8ft wall climbs (we’re pretty spectacular at all of the climbing, if we do say so ourselves!). We emerged at the end of the race muddy, laughing, and definitely more than a little bit closer as Sisters. Special thanks to our team captain, Soror Emily Robbins, for keeping us together!
All in all, our Sisterhood weekend was a huge success. We all enjoyed stepping out of our comfort zone and trying something new with the support of our Sisters. In fact, we’re already planning our next weekend of service, new experiences, and strengthening our ONEderful Sisterhood!
